BEYOND THE BASICS: ADD TO YOUR PLANT-BASED TOOLBOX
March 20 – 23, 2025
Instructor:
 Anne Eder

A week
end workshop with Anne Eder, well known for her teaching in the fields of sustainable darkroom and plant-based printing, set in bucolic southern Vermont! Learn ecodye and tatakizome, the Japanese art of pounding flower pigment, and how it can make a beautiful addition to your photographic prints.
The workshop will also cover botanical toning of cyanotypes. Basics of cyanotype will be reviewed and then experimental toning using a variety of plants will take place. Can these processes be combined? Of course, they can!
There are no prerequisites to take this workshop. Participants do not need to have taken the plant-based printing intro course and need not be proficient in cyanotype prior to the workshop. Bring digital prints, plant-based or silver prints to play with, and digital negatives and interesting objects for cameraless work. Digital negatives can be provided for you by sending files ahead of time (see the fee schedule). We will also forage from the nearby landscape, weather permitting.

Students are invited to arrive after 5pm on the 20th, where they will be welcomed by a reception and meet-and-greet. On the morning of the 21st, Lux founder
Dale Rio will lead a workshare/critique where students are invited to share existing work to receive feedback and also provide feedback for their fellow workshop attendees. Instruction by Anne will begin on the afternoon of the 21st.

Accommodations will be double rooms in a dorm on campus within walking distance of the darkroom. If you’d like to room with a friend, please shoot us an email (
info@luxetlibera.org) to put in your roommate request. Meals will be self-catered, and basics will be provided (including snacks), but if you have any dietary restrictions, please bring any specifics you’ll need. And all attendees are welcome to bring their own food if they prefer to cook for themselves. (Note that Dale will be prepping the meals, and she’s vegan, so if you just gotta have your meat or cheese, please b
